Dear Mrs. Boutilier:
For my capstone project I will be attempting to improve Dillon Stadium by providing a blueprint to the Hartford Parks department on a better model of the Stadium. When I say improve, I mean providing plans in which the maintenance would be updated and better maintained, so improved conditions would be provided for the high schools that play there. My mentor is Roger Pearl who is knowledgeable of fields due to his experience coaching football for an abundant amount of years. He would help me with plans of how the field because he knows what an ideal football stadium looks. He would help telling me what would be affordable and not unrealistic. Also, personalization would be added to the park for every school that plays there, including SMSA/University of Hartford, Buckeley, Hartford High, Weaver, and Capitol Prep.
As it is, the field has many dirt areas, and ditches which affect the way football and soccer are played. Having an uneven playing field can lead to possible playing injuries such as sprained ankles. The away stands are made of primarily wood, causing crowds to get splinters. The field has not been even slightly updated since 2009. As a student athlete, this project is of special interest to me. I think the future generations deserve a playing field that matches the pride we take in our teams. How can a better stadium environment affect the play of a sport team? Teams may be able to bring forth a better performance if they were playing in a good environment. The fields’ conditions will affect how people play and could possibly to prevent injuries.
The field’s appearance affects how a team actually plays during a sporting event. The environment of the field affects the team’s enthusiasm. When playing on a home field a team should be proud and feel like they are going to win because it’s their field and nobody can take that from them. As a player for one of the four high schools that play at Dillon Stadium I don’t feel like it is MY field. I feel that it’s just the field that I’m going to be playing on. There’s no personalization for my school on Dillon Stadium that makes me feel like its home. I am going to be socializing with the coaches and captains of the team that play at Dillon stadium. I would like to be the representative of their ideas and deliver the suggestions to the Hartford parks department.
Sincerely,
Shawn Lozada
